Durnford is one of the club’s finest assets. A premium stocked fishery which also holds a good head of wild fish. Twenty two varied beats all set on the beautiful Little Durnford Estate. This is chalk stream fishing as it is imagined. The club has its office base and workshops near to the fishery and this is where the tally board for the beats is held. The lower fishery is within walking distance of The Cart Shed or a drive up the valley allows you to enter the estate and park at the Manor Bridge. You will select a beat of your choosing and will have that beat to yourself. Beat 15 offers disabled persons access to the river with a friend, there are no guests permitted on the rest of the fishery. Beats 1 and 2 are wading beats with good grayling and trout stocks. Beat 12 offers a spectacular opportunity with deep runs, gravel flats and a churning hatch pool where some big fish are found in challenging conditions, you will need to wade to enjoy this one. Beats 3,4, 5,6 and 7 have slower water, open casting and a good head of stock fish. Beat 18 is another of gravelly runs and has its own smaller hatch pool. Beat 13 is worth exploring a short stretch of the main river then a long narrower carrier which requires accurate casting in any wind. This is dry fly water with nymphing permitted after 1st July. Durnford is managed to a traditional chalk stream pattern with mown paths and a waterside fringe. From October beats 3 to 7 remain open for grayling. Durnford offers challenging fishing for anglers of all abilities and is a safe place for the older member.
